Description:
Prenda Minha is one of the most famous and culturally significant folk songs from the Gaucho culture of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil. The song tells a simple, poetic story of a cowboy (peão) saying goodbye to his beloved because he must leave to work the cattle ranch (rodeio). It captures the profound sense of longing (saudade) and the harsh reality of rural life. Starting with a lush introduction, the gorgeous melody is played throughout the entire orchestra. A syncopated accompaniment gently propels and supports. A great way to introduce students to the music of Brazil!
